Speyside

  • Description

The famous distilleries of Speyside are only a stones throw from our Club Site. Set on a gentle, south-facing slope, it is lightly wooded giving the Site some shade but preserving its open feel.

The Speyside Way is 84 miles long. It connects the Moray Coast with the Grampian Mountains and passes near the Club Site. Elgin has many shops, fine buildings, a cathedral and the Elgin Museum. It is also the start of the Moray Churches Trail. There are at least 50 distilleries in Speyside several of which are near the Site.

The world-famous Macallan Distillery is less than a mile away. The Speyside Cooperage Visitor Centre shows how the oak casks for whisky and beer are made. Tugnet has Scotlands largest ice house in salmon-netting country. Buckie and Lossimouth, at either end of Spey Bay, both have fishing museums which are worth a visit. A funicular railway climbs into the Cairngorm Mountains. Enjoy the treetop trail and Wild Water Coaster at the Landmark Forest Heritage Park, Carrbridge. Walkers Shortbread Factory Shop is at the nearby town of Arberlour which also has a supermarket.

Ballindalloch castle home of the Lairds of Ballindalloch also houses the oldest herd of Aberdeen Angus. Archiestown is a mile-and-a-half from Site. It has a Post Office, general store and cafe. There is a popular restaurant a short stroll from the Club Site
