    Sheriff Hutton may only be a few miles from York, but it is spacious, quiet and rural. The perfect place for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the coastal towns of Filey and Bridlington.

    The city of York a few miles away is best explored on foot. There is a good Park and Ride scheme and the city hosts several walking tours. The National Railway Museum includes 103 locomotives and 177 other items of rolling stock.

    See Stephensons Rocket and the only bullet train outside Japan. North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway travels through the heart of the North York Moors National Park. The Yorkshire Air Museum is based on a World War Two Bomber Command station. The World War Two prisoner of war camp at Eden Camp is open to the public. It has a real prefab.

    If you like lavender, there are two interesting attractions to visit from this Site Wolds Way Lavender and Yorkshire Lavender; the latter includes the largest specialist Herb Nursery in Yorkshire. Flamingo Land has both animals and theme park rides. Castle Howard is an 18th century palace and one of Englands most beautiful historic houses. Sheriff Hutton village is a mile and a half away. It has a Post Office, pub, garage and the ruins of a castle. A fish and chip van visits the Site four times a week. A bakery van calls twice weekly.
