If you’re looking for a true wild camping experience, Beardown Farm Campsite is an ideal place to give it a go. Beardown is a working hill farm on the high moor of Dartmoor, giving you a very wild atmosphere with the reassurance of an official campsite, but none of the amenities or noise that you’d find at a family camping ground.
You won’t come across kids watching Netflix on their iPads by the swimming pool at Beardown Farm Campsite, because there’s no WiFi and definitely no pool. There’s also no toilets or showers or electricity, so if you need more luxurious comforts than a water tap and a fire pit, then this might not be the place for you.
If you are looking for a really wild experience, camping out in nature, with none of the mod-cons of our normal lives, then we offer exactly that across our 1,100 acres of moorland, which is grazed by beef cattle and sheep and is bordered by the Cowsic and West Dart rivers.
We’ve got two campsites at Beardown, offering a very natural site in a river valley or a more level and slightly less wild’ field, depending on your needs. Of course, the surrounding Dartmoor area is full of stunning scenery, walks and adventure sports like kayaking and climbing.
There’s also Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre and Dartmoor Prison’s museum, if you fancy a bit of culture and history while you’re camping in the area, as well as pony trekking trips.
Nearby is the small Dartmoor village of Princetown, which offers some small local shops, two pubs, three cafes and a fish and chip shop for those nights when you need a little bit of modern comfort.
Beardown Farm Campsite is a truly wild campsite that gets you into the heart of Dartmoor and offers you an old fashioned camping experience to get you away from it all. We welcome individuals and groups to our tranquil and peaceful campsite, prior booking is essential.
We keep beef cattle and sheep on 1,100 acres of moorland bordered by the Cowsic and West Dart rivers.
